The colourful Hong Kong
The former British colony is spread across 262 islands in the South China Sea and has a population of over 7 million people. Over the centuries, Hong Kong gradually became a commercial and maritime centre of the region, this boosted its economic power. The country reached place number 7 in the World from the point of view of economic power. As almost all of us know, Hong Kong's economy is primarily based on the financial, transportation and maritime sectors. In 1997, the former British colony was returned to China, but it will still maintain its autonomy until 2047, when it will fully become part of mainland China. The main attractions of Hong Kong are the its beautiful sights, its colourful streets and its restaurants. Hong Kong has 18 districts, out of which Kowloon and Victoria are the main ones, most populated and most visited by travelers. You will find immense parks, natural reservations rather, spread across several islands and mountains: Tai Lam Pat Houng Country Park, Sai Kung Country Park, Lantau Country Park, Pat Sin Range Country Park and others. When walking the streets of Hong Kong, you'll find yourself surrounded with cars, old rectangular-shaped trams, double-decker buses and lots of people. The colourful streets are cramped with shops, commercials, a great experience for those who don't live in Asia. The colours are even more beautiful at night. You have the possibility to take a ship cruise in the harbour. The place is interesting also due to the presence of the junks (old Chinese ships that Southeast-Asia is so famous about). It is also possible to board one, there are junk trips not only in the area, but also to other destinations around Southeast Asia. Night life is intense in Hong Kong, but if you'd better be careful when walking at night alone. Avoid dark areas, secondary streets, peripheries of the city. Theft is common in Hong Kong, therefore take the necessary precautions. As for shopping: Hong Kong is a great place to spend your cash, you can buy almost anything. Prices are medium, the variety of products is large. We advise you to take a trip down to Hong Kong Island and admire the cityscape of Kowloon, the most skyscraper-filled area of Hong Kong. Kowloon is also the most beautiful urban area of Hong Kong. Whenever you see postcards, clips on tv, most of the time it's Kowloon you're being presented. The place is spectacular at night, but you should also see it during daylight! Have a great trip!
